N Korea-cabinet meeting
SEOUL, April 4 (Yonhap) -- The North Korean government convened a full cabinet session and announced significant economic successes for the nation during the initial three months of this year, according to official news outlets on Friday.
As reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the meeting took place the day before under the chairmanship of Premier Park Thae-song to evaluate the progress of the nation’s economic strategies for the initial three months of the year.
The Vice Premier and Chairman of the State Planning Commission, Pak Jong-gun, stated at the meeting that "significant achievements have resulted from the execution of public economic strategies during the first quarter," according to KCNA.
He emphasized the importance of addressing "lackadaisical" and "self-protective" mindsets among employees in work environments. The report mentioned that the discussion also covered child care policies as well as concerns related to agriculture during the meeting.
In a January report, South Korea’s Hyundai Research Institute determined that North Korea’s economy seemed to have expanded last year, making it two years in a row of economic growth. Nevertheless, this expansion probably remained “restricted” because of various domestic and international limitations, as stated in the report.
Last week, Seoul's Unification Ministry stated that North Korea is estimated to receive approximately $3 billion in economic advantages from Russia as compensation for sending troops to assist Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.
Even though this isn't sufficient to bolster North Korea’s overall economy, it provides enough resources for Leader Kim Jong-un to finance his personal initiatives like building hospitals, local manufacturing plants, and various infrastructure developments aimed at benefiting the populace, according to the ministry.
