N Korea-cabinet meeting
SEOUL, April 4 (Yonhap) -- The North Korean government convened a full cabinet session and announced significant economic accomplishments during the initial three months of the year, according to state-run media reports released on Friday.
As reported by the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA), the meeting took place the prior day under the chairmanship of Premier Park Thae-song to evaluate the progress of the nation's economic strategies for the initial three months.
The Vice Premier and Chairman of the State Planning Commission, Pak Jong-gun, stated at the meeting that "significant achievements have resulted from the execution of public economic strategies during the first quarter," according to KCNA.
He emphasized the importance of addressing "laissez-faire" and "self-protecting" mindsets among employees in work environments. The discussion also encompassed childcare policies as well as agricultural concerns during the gathering, according to the report.
In a January report, the Hyundai Research Institute of South Korea indicated that North Korea’s economy seemed to have expanded last year, representing the second successive year of growth. Nevertheless, this expansion probably remained “restricted” because of various internal and external limitations, as stated in the assessment.
Last week, Seoul's Unification Ministry stated that North Korea is estimated to receive approximately $3 billion in economic advantages from Russia as compensation for sending soldiers to assist Russia in its conflict with Ukraine.
While this may not be sufficient to revitalize North Korea’s overall economy, it is adequate to finance Leader Kim Jong-un's personal initiatives, including the building of hospitals, local factories, and various public amenities, according to the ministry.
