MidAmerican Energy intends to increase charges for natural gas consumers in Iowa.
As stated in an announcement, MidAmerican Energy submitted a petition to the Iowa Utilities Board aiming for permission to introduce a surcharge on natural gas payments. This suggested capital expenditure fee would result in an increase of approximately 0.4%, equating to about 17 cents, on the typical Iowa home's monthly statement.
Once approved, this fee will assist in covering expenses related to mandated investments in the gas distribution infrastructure, along with initiatives aimed at improving the security of MidAmerican’s natural gas network.
The projects mentioned in the submission have been recently finished and do not reflect the present rates. These initiatives encompass relocating natural gas facilities and pipes because of street work in different areas, along with implementing additional safety measures to oversee the pressure within specific pipeline segments, as mandated by federal guidelines.

As stated in the announcement, the commission plans to evaluate the petition to ascertain whether the initiatives qualify for inclusion within the capital investment fee. It will also decide upon the exact date when the concluding charge goes into effect, potentially as soon as May 30.
