Columbus, GA (WTVM) - Lila Mae Star, who owns the Royal Café in Columbus and is also the grandmother of Kim Porter, has died.

On April 2, Quincy Combs, the son of Kim Porter, posted an image of Starr on his Instagram account along with a message announcing her death. "She left this world gently, leaving behind treasured recollections and a heritage of affection," the caption read.

Combs continues by saying, "My heart is broken. I adore you, Grandma Star."

The reason for the passing has not been disclosed, and according to Combs, information about a funeral service will be provided shortly.

Star and Carolyn Ross owned and ran the Royal Café in Columbus for more than fifty years.

“She exemplifies strength and determination and of course Royal Cafe was her dream, and she saw it come to fruition and she was able to survive from before the Civil Rights Movement up until a few years ago. So, she is one of the legacy business people in this part of the community,” said Gloria Strode, the family spokesperson.
