Columbus, GA (WTVM) - Lila Mae Star, who owns the Royal Café in Columbus and is also the grandmother of Kim Porter, has died.
On April 2nd, which was a Wednesday, Quincy Combs, who is Kim Porter’s son, posted an image of Starr on his Instagram account along with a message announcing her death. The post stated, "She left this world gently, leaving behind precious recollections and a heritage filled with affection."
Combs continues with "I am heartbroken. I have such deep affection for you, Grandma Star."
The reason for the passing has not been disclosed, and according to Combs, information about a funeral service will be provided shortly.
Star and Carolyn Ross possessed and ran the Royal Café in Columbus for more than fifty years.
"She embodies strength and perseverance, andRoyal Caféwas her lifelong aspiration. She witnessed it becoming a reality and managed to thrive from well before the Civil Rights Movement through several years ago. Thus, she stands as one of the pillars among local entrepreneurs in this section of the community," stated Gloria Strode, who speaks for the family.
