ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) — The six-acre area adjacent to the Indian Hill Forest Preserve at 7061 Kishwaukee Road will now come under the management of the Forest Preserves of Winnebago County.
The property was formerly owned privately and was acquired from 2212 Rio Vista, LLC., using a surplus corporate fund balance of $80,000, as stated by FPWC.
This acquisition will aid in safeguarding the Rock River shoreline and includes areas with upland oak woodlands as well as bottomland forests. The site is accessible to everyone and can be reached via the Indian Hill Forest Preserve trail network located at the northern part of the land. Currently, there are no designated paths established here.
The FPWC indicates that Indian Hill Forest Preserve is highly favored by hikers in the Rockford region due to its beautiful woodland scenery and easy-to-moderate trail paths.
