Kansas Lawmaker Launches Campaign for Secretary of State

TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) — A legislator from Kansas has decided to step forward for the opportunity to manage the state’s elections.

Representative Pat Proctor (R) declared his intention to run for office again in 2026 during an announcement on Thursday evening. As the chair of the Election Committee, Rep. Proctor highlights his involvement with several voting rights bills.

Maintaining voter trust that election outcomes align with the public’s wishes lies at the heart of our democratic system and lifestyle. To rebuild this faith, we should enhance openness and guarantee that solely eligible citizens participate in voting within Kansas," stated Representative Proctor. "Having served as the Chairperson of the House Elections Committee, I initiated steps to make Kansas a model state for conducting secure and reliable elections. If elected Secretary of State, my aim is to complete this mission.

Current Secretary Scott Schwab announced earlier this year He plans to vacate his position in order to campaign for governor.
