Even though her bid for the presidency in 2024 didn't succeed, ex-vice president Kamala Harris assures people that this isn't the end of her political journey.
"We cannot venture into that arena for combat unless we prioritize our well-being and support one another. I'll meet you out there; I have no intention of leaving," Harris stated on Thursday at her first public engagement following her defeat in the November election.
At the speech preceding the Leading Women Defined Summit in Dana Point, Calif., Harris did not disclose her plans regarding a potential bid for a particular political position soon. However, she is apparently considering entering the contest for California governor. She has established an endpoint of late summer to make up her mind about running to succeed the term-restricted Governor Gavin Newsom in 2026, as reported. Politico .
Should the ex-California senator choose to run for governor, she will enter a crowded field of contenders that also includes ex-California Attorney General and Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra, Former Democratic Representative Katie Porter, ex-Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, Lieutenant Governor Eleni Kounalakis, former State Controller Betty Yee, past state legislator Toni Atkins, and state Schools Superintendent Tony Thurmond.
Harris further mentioned that there is a "growing sense of fear gripping our nation."
These are the occurrences we see daily across the past several months in our nation, which naturally instills significant apprehension," she stated. "Since numerous events have unfolded as anticipated, many others also came to pass.
"We're observing individuals remaining silent. We are also noticing organizations staying quiet. Additionally, we see entities succumbing to blatantly unconstitutional demands. These are the occurrences we are currently bearing witness to each day over the past several months within our nation," she stated.
"I'm not here to say I told you so," Harris remarked, chuckling along with the crowd. I promise, I didn't intend to mention that.
Harris’s infrequent public appearance occurs amid a new book suggesting she was caught off guard by her defeat in November against Trump. since she "fell for the idea" that she was going to emerge victorious.
