On Thursday, U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg posed several provocative questions that led at least one legal expert to conclude he may be inclined to find certain members of the Trump administration in contempt.

As reported by legal correspondent Adam Klasfeld On Thursday, Boasberg posed "a sequence of inquiries regarding who should be deemed in contempt if probable cause for such actions is established," he said.

Shortly thereafter, as per Klasfeld, Boasberg inquired, “Should I determine that there’s likely cause for contempt, would the government prefer having a chance to rectify the situation?”

Boasberg has been managing a legal action brought on behalf of Venezuelan immigrants who were held and transported to a jail in El Salvador despite his directive against their deportation. He frequently voices dissatisfaction with how administration officials respond to his inquiries regarding this matter.

As stated by Professor Ryan Goodman from New York University Law School, Boasberg’s line of questioning on Thursday suggests that he might be preparing to move forward with further action.

Judge Boasberg appears highly probable to find U.S. officials in contempt and is currently focusing intensively on: precisely who decided against diverting the aircrafts or taking alternative actions to repatriate the detainees? Could the government rectify this situation by returning the detainees to potentially avoid being held in contempt? he observed on BlueSky .
