James Cameron Unleashes Spectacular 'Avatar: Fire and Ash' Trailer at CinemaCon Featuring Epic Battles and Sinister Na'vi

This event took place at The Linq Theater in Las Vegas, where cinema operators convene annually. (It's worth noting that for the subsequent installments, Cameron filmed them consecutively, ensuring they would likely meet their scheduled releases.)

At CinemaCon, event-goers received 3D glasses to view the trailer, details of which have not been made available to the general public.

Certainly, "Avatar" has turned into the ultimate prize for movie theaters and remains practically the lone asset capable of motivating cinema owners to outfit their premises with top-tier technology for showcasing Cameron’s blockbusters. Given that both “Avatar” from 2009 and its lengthy delayed follow-up, “Avatar: The Way of Water,” released in 2022, have raked in over $2 billion worldwide apiece, they rank among the highest-grossing films ever made. If “Fire and Ash” follows suit at the box office, “Avatar” would then claim the distinction of having three entries surpass the $2-billion mark—a feat unmatched even by Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe which boasts merely two such successes: 2019’s “Avengers: Endgame” and 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War.” Additionally, Cameron stands alone as the director whose trio of films—alongside “Titanic”—have achieved this monumental financial success.

The science fiction series continues with the story of Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (portrayed by Zoe Saldaña), set on the extraterrestrial moon named Pandora. The narrative advances from where "The Way of Water" concluded, depicting the struggle between the Na'vi – the blue-hued humanoid inhabitants – and their adversaries, the malevolent Resources Development Administration. Following the tragic demise of Jake’s son Neteyam, they along with his kin find sanctuary among an underwater tribe referred to as the Metkayina, continuing their battle against the RDA. New scenes reveal the introduction of the Ash People within the ranks of the Na’vi for this third installment.

Cameron, who is adding the finishing touches to "Avatar 3," showed up in a prerecorded message to inform exhibitors about the upcoming trilogy installment.

Oona Chaplin from "Game of Thrones" portrays Varang, the leader of the Ash People. Joining her are actors David Thewlis and Michelle Yeoh. Returning alongside Worthington and Saldana are Sigourney Weaver, Stephen Lang, and Kate Winslet. The film "Avatar: Fire and Ash" is set to premiere before Christmas on December 19th. Additionally, "Avatar 4" is planned for release on December 21st, 2029, followed by "Avatar 5," which is scheduled for December 19th, 2031.

During Disney’s CinemaCon presentation, the company provided sneak peeks at upcoming projects including Marvel's "Thunderbolts" and "Fantastic Four: The Initial Journey,” along with “Zootopia 2,” “ Freaky Friday,” “Tron: Ares” and the live-action reboot of "Lilo & Stitch." All these movies are scheduled for release before the close of this year.
