Beginning Thursday, a 25% tax will be levied on all imported vehicles within the nation, except for those from Canada and Mexico. Experts suggest this might cause car prices to rise by several thousand dollars.
The White House stated that out of the 16 million automobiles purchased in the U.S. last year, about eight million were imported vehicles. The Trump administration asserted that these tariffs would safeguard America’s car sector, emphasizing its crucial role in both national security and economic health.

At CARSNH, a used car dealership in North Hampton, co-owner Thomas Farnham mentioned that they are attempting to determine how the tariffs will impact dealerships.

"As things stand right now, we’re uncertain about how everything will turn out,” explained Thomas Farnham, who co-owns CARSNH. “I’m unsure how the tariff will apply to vehicles currently in stock compared to those still being brought in from abroad.”
He mentioned that the tariffs on auto components scheduled to come into play next month will cause some damage, though he does not anticipate it being utterly catastrophic.
Farnham stated that he believes the recent tariffs won't impact an individual intending to purchase a vehicle immediately.
Frankly, I'm not sure this will make much of an impact on people at present," stated Thomas Farnham, who co-owns CARSNH. "It could potentially influence those owning cars after about 30 or 45 days. However, I advised everyone to stick with American products for now until things settle down.
Employees at car dealerships throughout New Hampshire mentioned that their sales floors have been packed with individuals rushing to seize good deals before they disappear.
