Rep. Sara Jacobs will join a Democratic delegation visiting the U.S.-Mexico border on Friday to oversee the Trump administration’s border policies personally.
The announcement was made on Thursday by the office of Rep. Bennie Thompson from Mississippi, who is the top Democrat on the House Homeland Security Committee.
Jacobs, a Democrat representing San Diego, isn’t part of the committee but will participate alongside Thompson and fellow Democratic members Lou Correa from Santa Ana, Delia Ramirez hailing from Illinois, LaMonica McIver, and Nellie Pou from New Jersey, as well as Tim Kennedy from New York.
Thompson’s office mentioned that the tour will encompass visits to various Department of Homeland Security sites and tech installations close to San Diego. Additionally, the group plans to meet with representatives from the Customs and Border Protection’s Field Operations division, the U.S. Border Patrol, CBP’s Air and Marine Operations unit, as well as personnel from Homeland Security Investigations.
According to Thompson’s office, the visit will also encompass a conversation with groups that are directly engaged with migrant support.”
Representative Robert Garcia from Long Beach and Representative Eric Swalwell from Northern California, who aren’t planning to join the border visit on Friday, are the sole other Democratic members from California on the committee.
The Republicans hold an 18-14 lead on the committee.
