ST. LOUIS, Mo. (First Alert 4) - Missouri Gov. Mike Kehoe has until Thursday to appoint a transition director for the state’s takeover of the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department.

Kehoe is required by statute to select a person for that position within 30 days of signing the takeover legislation. His office says a decision will be made soon. The governor is expected to be in the St. Louis area on Thursday.

The person in this position will oversee the transfer of the agency into the jurisdiction of a state oversight board. The current acting transition director, Troy Murdock from the Missouri Department of Public Safety, has taken up this responsibility temporarily.
