A few weeks following his statement that his caucus would not have time for the federal election due to their busy schedule, the Ontario Premier said this: Doug Ford states that he gave Caroline Mulroney his approval to support Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre.
On Wednesday, Mulroney -- who serves as the president of the treasury board in Ontario’s Ford administration -- introduced Poilievre at an event in Toronto and backed his candidacy.
"In my judgment, Pierre Poilievre "is the one leader capable of transforming those emotions into actions, fostering unity, setting a clear purpose, and developing a strategy to restore our nation," stated Mulroney prior to the Conservative leader stepping onto the platform.

She informed the gathered supporters that her father, ex-prime minister Brian Mulroney, had contributed to Poilievre’s initial campaign to become an Member of Parliament back in 2004.
Despite Premier Ford earlier informing reporters that his caucus, which includes Mulroney, would focus solely on addressing provincial matters and thus not support federal candidates or assist with their campaigns, she has now offered her backing.
“I want to ensure our MPPs are meeting our mandate,” Ford stated on March 21 in Ottawa. “We will be completely overwhelmed; let’s concentrate on Ontario, as that is our primary goal.”
He mentioned that he had no intentions of participating in the federal election.

He stated, 'I won’t be assisting anybody; that’s not part of my role. My responsibility is to ensure Ontario progresses.'
When asked on Thursday whether Mulroney had sought her approval before supporting Poilievre, Ford stated that he had, but quickly shifted the conversation to discuss a recent ice storm in Ontario.
The premier stated at Queen's Park, 'Caroline contacted me -- let me say that I hold Caroline in high regard; she excels tremendously as President of the Treasury -- and requested my input,' he mentioned. 'Ultimately, this decision rests with Caroline, which is excellent for her and others involved. However, our priority should be concentrating on our responsibilities.'
Poilievre is presently running for the Conservatives against Liberal leader Mark Carney and the NDP's Jagmeet Singh.
The elections are scheduled for April 28.
