In James Cameron's follow-up film, Jake Sully (played by Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (portrayed by Zoe Saldaña) will come across two additional indigenous groups from Pandora.
James Cameron has released the initial official preview from Avatar: Fire and Ash , although the broader audience might need to wait a bit longer for its release.
The Titanic The filmmaker impressed CinemaCon participants with the initial footage from his third film. Avatar The movie was showcased during Disney's presentation on Thursday afternoon. In a video message recorded in New Zealand, where he is wrapping up the post-production work on the film, Cameron stated, "This thing is going to hit the market like a freight train."
Fire and Ash Will present two new Na'vi clans on Pandora: the intimidating Ash People, who have "abandoned" the Na'vi god Eywa, as stated by the star. Zoe Saldaña , and the serene Wind Traders. The video showcased the family of Jake Sully. Sam Worthington ) and Neytiri (played by Saldaña) meeting the sky clan, who traverse the heavens using enormous vessels featuring biologically inspired sails towed by gigantic, floating turtle-like beings.
The Ash People, adorned with crimson headgear and ashes streaked across their faces, launch a volley of fire-tipped arrows at Jake and Neytiri. Subsequently, Jake confides in Neytiri, saying, “This way of life isn’t sustainable, darling. We can’t keep living filled with such hatred.” Additionally, several scenes depicted the Sully family facing dangerous situations.
Cameron clarified the reasoning behind thesubtitle Fire and Ash during an interview with Entertainment Weekly at D23 Last year, he mentioned, "It took quite some time to find a title that truly captured the essence of the movie." He continued, "I can’t reveal too many details just yet; you’ll have to watch the film to understand fully. However, consider this: If fire represents emotions like hate, rage, and aggression, then ashes symbolize their result—the aftermath. This outcome includes sorrow, bereavement, among others. What follows from these feelings? Likely further hostility, animosity, and fury—creating an endless loop."

Cameron also hinted at the tone and character development in the third installment. Avatar In an interview with EW, he stated, “This chapter ventures into murkier territories compared to its predecessors, yet it remains unmistakably part of this expansive, awe-inspiring journey—a vision we strive for each time we embark,” He continued, “We’re unafraid to delve into the shadowy aspects of our characters, which I believe is essential. When audiences become deeply familiar with a character—whether through a series or another medium—they yearn for deeper insight. They seek to uncover the boundaries these characters face. That’s something we aim to explore.”
Avatar: Fire and Ash opens in theaters December 19, 2025.
