On Tuesday night, two employees of Spire were hurt when a broken gas line exploded close to 95th Street and Grandview Road.
The Kansas City Fire Department personnel showed up at approximately 5:20 p.m., finding out that a natural gas line ranging from 12 to 14 inches in diameter had been hit.

Initially, firefighters let the gas dissipate before putting out any lingering fires.
Electricity and natural gas supply to the nearby region were disconnected as a safety measure.
Spire later confirmed that the issue was due to a contractor employed by a different utility company.
Two workers from Spire were transported to a hospital for assessment.
This evening, a subcontractor employed by another utility struck a Spire natural gas line in the Grandview district," stated the firm. "Our teams promptly reacted, and during efforts to address the situation, two workers were transported to a nearby medical facility for assessment. Meanwhile, our personnel have shut off the mainline to halt gas flow so repair work can commence. By shutting down the mainline, we expect only a limited number of customers will experience service interruptions.
Shortly before 9:20 p.m., a representative from Spire stated that the region had been deemed "gas safe" and that teams were starting to carry out repairs.
By Wednesday morning, according to Spire, one worker had received treatment and was discharged from the hospital, while the second employee continued to receive care.
