For so many people, Opening Day is a sign we are rounding the bases to leave winter at third and slide right on home into spring. It's full of tradition, celebration, family, friends, and of course classic ballpark food.
But the gates of America's oldest ballpark don't open themselves. On Thursday, an army of people worked in the stadium, on the street, and in nearby businesses to get ready for the Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park.
"Tomorrow is expected to be very hectic," stated Alex Thibault from Loco Taqueria & Oyster Bar in Fenway.
The first day of operations sees some of the highest activity throughout the year.
It’s enormous. We have the chance to meet numerous individuals from across the country and even Canada. It’s fantastic," Thibault stated. "Although the garage doors will be open, we are fully prepared for it. We are set.
Continuing Opening Day tradition
This Friday will be Jeff Kosiorek's 30th Opening Day alongside his college roommate. He traveled all the way from Chicago just to continue this long-standing tradition.
“I’ve witnessed people clear snow from the tarp during certain seasons around here,” stated Kosiorek. “Make sure you’re ready. Since tomorrow won’t bring any rain, we’ll get to enjoy ourselves. The atmosphere will be electrifying.”
Several families who were exploring Boston for their initial visit understood that they absolutely had to attend the much-anticipated opening day game at Friday’s stadium.
I find it truly historic and amazing to witness all the ancient artifacts still present here," stated Nicholas Joyal from Charlotte, North Carolina. "It’s quite impressive.
Red Sox vs. Cardinals
The Red Sox will play against the St. Louis Cardinals during their home opening game.
Pregame ceremonies will welcome members of the 1975 Red Sox team to mark the 50th anniversary of their AL Championship win. Fans are encouraged to be in their seats by 1:30 p.m. First pitch is scheduled for 2:10 p.m.
