The Senator from Edo South, Ned Imasuen, has supported the decision made by the Supreme Court which removed Barrister Julius Abure from his position as the National Chairman of the Labour Party.
During a media interaction with members of the Correspondents' Chapel of the Edo State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Benin City, Imasuen, an LP party member, praised the supreme court ruling.
The chairperson of the Senate Committee on Ethics, Code of Conduct, and Public Petitions stated that the troubled national chairman wasn't truly concerned about the party’s well-being and was managing its operations as though they were his own private property.
Nevertheless, he voiced concerns about the party's future following Barrister Julius Abure's dismissal from his position as national chairman.
Truly, I am pleased with the Supreme Court ruling that removed Barrister Julius Abure from his position as the national chairman of the Labour Party in Nigeria.
“Many events have transpired within the Labour Party, which is quite regrettable. Therefore, Abure, who held the chairmanship position back then, as I see it, did not truly prioritize the interests of the Labour Party since it seemed more like a personal matter.”
It turned into something insignificant for them, almost as though they decided to combat and dismantle the party rather than protect it. This kind of behavior wasn't what I anticipated from the person leading the party back then.
And thus, he has kept pushing the party back and forth through courts, and since the Supreme Court has ultimately settled the matter, that’s fine. This is indeed a positive turn of events.
But my concern and everyone else's at present is, where do we proceed from here? This morning, someone discussed this issue with me, and I expressed my worry that it might be somewhat too late due to recent developments since the Labour Party seems nearly destroyed.
"Many of the members have left. Will this decision bring them back? I'm not sure. And whether it will invigorate those currently present, once more, I cannot say," he stated.
The sole Labour Party representative for Edo State in the National Assembly revealed that his committee has received over 300 petitions since the start of the 10th National Assembly session.
He revealed that approximately 20 of these petitions have thus far been addressed with several more reaching their concluding phases.

The petitions include those submitted by individual senators as well as those directed to the Senate President. These cover issues like oil spills in the Niger Delta and students who have been expelled from universities.
"Be it someone who feels they have been unfairly passed over for promotion, or an individual in the military who thinks they've been wrongly discharged, or perhaps someone who believes their deserved advancement has been withheld from them, various grievances and petitions land on my desk," he said.
