The Los Angeles Dodgers' top first baseman, Freddie Freeman, was put on the 10-day disabled list on Thursday, effective retroactively from Monday, because of a strained right ankle.
Freeman injured his previously operated-on ankle in an accident while getting into the shower at home, according to manager Dave Roberts' statement earlier this week.
Freeman initially hurt his ankle way back in September. Despite playing with the injury during the Dodgers’ journey to the World Series, he opted for surgery once the season ended.
This season, the player, aged 35 years, has participated in three matches with the Dodgers, achieving a batting line of 3 hits out of 12 at-bats along with scoring two home runs and driving in four runs.
The eight-time All-Star stands out as one of the top offensive players in baseball, recording 22 home runs, 89 RBIs, a .282 batting average, and a .378 on-base percentage across 147 games during the previous season. In an unforgettable moment, he hit the inaugural walk-off grand slam in World Series history in Game 1, aiding the Dodgers' victory over the New York Yankees in five matches.
