Many demonstrators have assembled in downtown London as part of international protests opposing the policies of President Donald Trump’s government.
On Saturday afternoon, crowds assembled in Trafalgar Square carrying signs that said "No to Maga hate" and "Dump Trump."
The rally is among numerous " hands off" protests happening globally, which include events in various U.S. cities as well as in places like Paris and Berlin.
Over 150 organizations, such as civil rights groups and labor unions, have coordinated this movement.
In London, protesters expressed their worries with slogans like "Stay out of Ukraine" and "Leave the UK alone."
One of the demonstrators was Clarke Reinstein, aged 73, from Rhode Island, who informed the PA news agency that he felt "let down by my fellow Americans" due to the election of Mr. Trump.
"I have spent two months in London, and I enjoy being here since people tend to think somewhat differently," he stated.
They erred with Brexit – but they haven't stumbled as much as the Americans have.
A 37-year-old woman hailing from Philadelphia was adorned with an American flag that had previously been given to her grandfather, who was a veteran of World War II.
A woman, preferring to remain anonymous, informed PA that her reason for protesting stemmed from the "utterly, astonishingly vapid" nature of President Trump's administration.
“She mentioned, ‘I don’t wish to create distance between myself and the rest of the globe,’” she stated.
It won’t be beneficial for anybody in the long term. I felt helpless and had to speak up about it.
I have buddies in the United States who are participating in protests, and I wished to join them in solidarity.
She mentioned that the flag she was wearing had been presented to her grandfather, who was stationed at Cambridgeshire's Duxford airbase during the conflict.
"This is the flag provided to a veteran’s family after their passing," she explained.
“My grandfather fought fascism and now to see it returning, he would be turning in his grave.”
A significant number of the demonstrators in London are Americans living abroad.
Brent Robertson, aged 56 and from Albuquerque, criticized Mr. Trump's tariffs.
On Thursday, a 25% tax was imposed on all foreign automobiles brought into America, and starting Saturday morning, an expanded "standard" 10% duty began applying to products coming in from across the globe.
Mr. Robertson stated, "That goes beyond stupidity."
He is harming both himself and all of us as Americans, merely to portray himself as a tough individual.
