Recently, the studio has revitalized these characters by bringing them to life in a new light through their live-action adaptations. Disney Remakes are all the talk these days—especially with discussions centering around Lily James’ depiction of Cinderella as Disney marks the 75th anniversary of the classic film’s release this year.
Although certain individuals enjoy the live-action adaptations, others remain unimpressed. Even though numerous reinterpreted movies have garnered significant financial success and favorable reviews, some of these remakes have disappointed devoted followers.

The recently released live-action version of The Lion King, which stars Mufasa, has made its debut on Disney+. This movie earned an impressive $700 million globally at the box office. Coming up later this year, fans will also be able to enjoy a new take on Lilo & Stitch. Additionally, not long ago, the studio unleashed their latest classic reboot with a live-action rendition of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs into cinemas.
The upcoming movie is called 'Disney's Snow White.' Nonetheless, the studio’s reimagining did not perform well during its debut weekend at the box office.
This has ignited conversations amongst fans regarding their preferred live-action adaptations and which actresses' portrayals of the famous Disney princesses they deem superior.
On Reddit, a passionate Disney fan with the username r/disneyprincess asked the following question: “Who was the most effective/least effective at playing Disney princesses?” In this series of live-action remakes, Lily James plays Cinderella, Elle Fanning portrays Aurora, Emma Watson takes on the role of Belle, Naomi Scott embodies Jasmine, Liu Yifei stars as Mulan, Halle Bailey becomes Ariel, and Rachel Zegler brings Snow White to life.
One reviewer raved: "Lily James and Elle Fanning were utterly charming; they infused their parts with great depth and charisma!" Another agreed, stating: "Absolutely, these versions rank as my favorites. While I can’t fault the other performers, the essence of the characters didn't quite come through for me when played by others."
Another Redditor shared this viewpoint: "My favorite portrayal was definitely Lily James as Cinderella. She truly captured both Cinderella’s resilience and gentleness. What I wasn’t fond of was her lack of singing, along with the dress being somewhat overly blue—factors which might have been beyond James’ influence. Coming in second place for me would likely be Elle Fanning as Aurora."
The criticisms persisted, with someone commenting: "Emma Watson as Belle was my least favorite part. I didn’t particularly enjoy her singing voice or the additional elements incorporated into the character."
