Whether it's the furnishings you purchase or the groceries you consume, new duties imposed on items not produced or cultivated within the U.S. might filter through to retailers throughout Central Florida.
On Wednesday, President Trump stated that a ten-percent tariff would be imposed on all imported goods from every foreign nation.
"Sure, the cost will likely increase momentarily, but over time, this will benefit us," stated Tom Le, who owns Oviedo Fine Wine and Liquor.
He informed Channel 9 that roughly 80 percent of the bottles in his store are manufactured in the United States, with significant exclusions such as certain types of rum, tequila, and whiskey.
A 25 percent tariff still applies to products coming from Mexico and Canada; however, alcoholic beverages from these nations, such as tequila, are excluded from the additional duties.
In total, Le informed Channel 9 that despite potential price increases for certain wines and spirits, his clientele probably won't be dissuaded. He believes that these new tariffs will ultimately encourage American manufacturing over time.
I enjoy using and selling American-made products," Le stated, "and I'm ready to pay extra for them instead of imported goods.
On Thursday, two specialized grocery stores informed Channel 9 that they would be forced to absorb higher expenses. The proprietor of the International Food Market, known for offering genuine Middle Eastern, South Asian, and Turkish provisions, mentioned to Channel 9 that nearby suppliers would likely experience difficulties first due to these cost increases.
In the meantime, Giovanni Torres, a frequent visitor of the International Food Market, stated that although he does not endorse the tariffs, he will keep supporting the local store.
It only stands to reason that they might increase prices on specific items since they're having to spend more money just to bring these products in," explained Torres. "If I end up paying extra, well, then so be it.
Multiple dozens of nations will face extra reciprocal tariffs as announced by Trump.
