Calumet, Mich. (WLUC) -- The Calumet Free Fridge and Food Pantry has noted an upsurge in the number of families they assist.
The pantry is currently aiding more than 630 families each month and counting. grown from 500 families In June, according to Ron Ray, the founder of Pantry, between 30 and 35 individuals visit the pantry daily.
"The happy tears from these individuals... their stories... it's simply a blessing to be involved in such an extraordinary thing here," Ray stated.
Nevertheless, even though Ray has managed to assist these families effectively until now, he admits doubt about his ability, along with the food bank's capacity, to continue for much longer.
There are times when I wonder if I can keep doing this," Ray went on. "The demand is enormous, and I have no idea where the funding will come from.
Ray mentions that he’s been getting assistance from donors. On Wednesday, a local entrepreneur contributed $500 to the food bank. Additionally, Ray indicates that UPCAP might start aiding again shortly. In the past summer period, this group had supplied the pantry with numerous cases of eggs every week over a span of four months.
“Ray mentioned that they have been collaborating with UPCAP for a few years now. They are just about to receive not only eggs once more but also several hundred pounds of butter, cheese, and pork products.”
