BUHL, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A local high school student is celebrating after gaining admission to one of the nation’s top universities.
The senior from Buhl High School, Mason DuBois, has been admitted to the prestigious California Institute of Technology, commonly referred to as Caltech.
DuBois mentioned that he began submitting applications to numerous renowned institutions last year because of his impressive SAT scores. He received acceptances from Caltech, Carnegie Mellon, Dartmouth, MIT, Princeton, Stanford, and Yale.
Dubois mentioned that his involvement with the High School’s robotics team was instrumental in preparing him for the essay section of the college entrance examinations. Additionally, this experience provided him with substantial practice.
However, he was quite astonished when he got his acceptance letter from Caltech.
"The acceptance rate this year dropped to 2.3%, compared to 2.7% last year, so I didn't have high hopes for getting accepted, particularly since my test scores were slightly under their targets. However, one day at work, I decided to check my application status and suddenly—confetti everywhere on my screen! I was thrilled because it turned out to be my very first genuine college acceptance," DuBois stated.
DuBois mentioned his desire to pursue physics in college, and Caltech presents an excellent chance for him to further his career goals.
