SYDNEY () - Several Australian pension funds have fallen victim to a coordinated hacking attack that affected thousands of member accounts, according to reports from local media on Friday.
The AustralianSuper, Australian Retirement Trust, Hostplus, Insignia Financial which owns the biggest retail superannuation brand, and REST, the default industry pension fund for retail employees, have reportedly all faced impacts.
The Sydney Morning Herald has reported concerns that other funds within Australia’s $4.2 trillion AUD ($2.66 trillion USD) sector might also be at risk of being compromised.
Vicki Doyle, the CEO of REST, stated in a release that their pension fund, which oversees A$93 billion in assets, experienced an assault over the weekend affecting approximately 1% of its 2 million members.
Other funds did not promptly reply to requests seeking their comments.
