After serving on Roku's board of directors for over ten years, Ravi Ahuja will step down following his recent promotion. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Sony Pictures Entertainment .
This past Tuesday, Ahuja informed the Roku board of his decision to step down as a director starting June 11th, which coincides with the firm’s 2025 yearly gathering of shareholders. The reason cited was “the significant time demands associated with serving as both president and CEO at Sony Pictures Entertainment,” as stated in an SEC document filed by Roku last Friday.
Roku stated in the filing that Mr. Ahuja’s resignation did not stem from any dispute with the company or the board regarding the firm’s operations, policies, or procedures. Following his exit, the number of directors on the board will decrease from nine to eight members. Ahuja initially became part of Roku's board back in February 2013, during his tenure at Fox Networks Group where he spearheaded their initial investments in Roku.
Ahuja, who was most recently the chairperson of Sony Global Television Studios and Corporate Development, will take on the new role. his new duties as CEO of Sony Pictures Entertainment Starting from April 1, he will relocate to Sony's Poitier Building in Culver City, maintaining his role as the head of Sony Pictures Television.
Prior to joining Sony in March 2021, Ahuja served as the president of business operations and chief financial officer for Walt Disney Television. His contributions were crucial during the integration of Disney/ABC Television and Fox Networks after Disney acquired Fox in early 2019. During his tenure at Fox over a span of 12 years, he also played a key role in guiding the company’s involvement in the Hulu joint venture.
