The entertainment sector's jobs have bounced back following the 2023 Hollywood strikes; however, only some of the lost positions have been regained, as stated in the most recent Otis College Report. the Creative Economy.
Film, TV, and Sound added nearly 15,000 jobs over the past year though only 26% of the jobs lost during the strikes have been recovered, “underscoring the impact of an industry in transition,” the study says.
According to the report, overall entertainment sector employment is still 25% lower than its high point in 2022. The document also points out that the number of filming days in Los Angeles County decreased by 42% in 2024 when compared with 2022 levels, reflecting an ongoing reduction within the industry along with a decline following the peak period for television production.
“The Film, TV, and Sound sector appears to be settling into a new normal characterized by lower employment and production levels when compared to its pre-strike peak,” the study says.
Last year’s Otis College study reported a 17% drop in entertainment industry employment from April to October 2023 as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, compounded by the ongoing TV contraction.
